Quote of the Week

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.”

Are you Average?

August 4, 2018

Confidence is rare. Belief is rare. Success is rare. Average is common. It isn't everyday that you find people in this world who are breaking the mold. By breaking the mold I don't mean breaking the norm in trivial things like in the way you dress. When I say breaking the mold I mean in your everyday decisions. It is rare for people to make everyday decisions to choose something other than average. Average is a curse. It is the easiest trap to fall into because all you have to do is lose your focus.

But if average is average and no one wants to be basic, why do so many people allow themselves to be average? Why do so many people never REALLY believe in themselves? Why do so many people not reach their full potential? What is the difference between someone who breaks the mold and someone who fits right into it? What distinguishes the great from the good?

As someone who has always strived to be successful (and especially to have other people think I'm successful, but thats a whole other blog post) I struggled with these questions for a long time. I wanted so badly to be great and not just good but I didn't know how to stop being average. After over 30 self help/personal development books, lots of prayer, and tons of hours of talking to mentors who have the results I want in life, I think I finally found the answer.

Average lies in your every day decisions. Maybe that seems really obvious to you, but even if it does, I am sure you haven't fully internalized it yet.

Every morning we are afforded a new opportunity to be GREAT. But let's be honest being GREAT is exhausting, or at least that's what we think. The distinguisher between those who realize their full God-given purpose and those who don't, lies in their daily decisions.

One of the top leadership experts in the world, John Maxwell, once said, "If I could come to your house and spend just one day with you, I would be able to tell whether or not you will be successful. You could pick the day. If I got up with you in the morning and went through the day with you, watching you for 24 hours, I could tell in what direction your life is headed...Here is why: I believe that the secret of your success is determined by your daily agenda. If you make a few key decisions and then manage them well in your daily agenda, you will succeed. You will never change your life until you change something you do daily."

In a simpler way if X=Y you can never get a different result for 'Y' until you change your input, 'X'.

Then the question of how to be great becomes how willing are you to change the inputs in your life, or is average ok with you because greatness is to much work

SUMMARY: Ok so, I basically just told you that you will always be average if you don't change your daily habits. My next series of posts will focus on different habits I changed on my path to eliminate average from my life and seek greatness within every opportunity.

Till next time - take a chance and bet on yourself,
